Glass stove tops are a sleek, modern alternative to their traditional element counterparts, but they do come with their downsides. They need to be taken care of regularly and carefully in order to maintain their sleek look and extend their life. Harsh abrasives can cause scratching, and sharp tools can cause permanent damage. How to Remove Burn Marks & Clean Glass Stove Tops

Step 1: Turn it off

Turn the stove off and allow it to cool before you attempt to remove any stains.

Step 2: Scrape the Burn Mark

Take a dull butter knife or similar implement, and carefully scrape away any thick burn marks from the glass. Do be careful, as glass stovetops scratch easily! Take your time, and if the stain is being extra stubborn, you can use a mild cleaner such as distilled vinegar to soften the stain. Allow the vinegar to sit on the glass stovetop for 20 minutes and try again.

Step 3: Create a Baking Soda Paste

Baking soda works great to remove burn marks from glass stovetops. It is mild enough not to leave behind scratches, yet provides enough abrasion to remove most marks. Add 2 tsp. of baking soda to a small bowl. Slowly add some water until you are able to form a thick paste.

Step 4: Apply the Paste to the Burn Mark

Apply the paste to the burn mark and allow it to sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Proceed to scrub the paste into the burn mark to remove it. Re-apply if needed to remove the mark. For the most stubborn burn marks, add a few drops of lemon juice with the paste to dissolve the burn away.

Step 5: Wipe Away!

Wipe the paste off with a damp washcloth, and voila! The burn marks should be mostly, if not completely removed! If the burn marks have been allowed to sit on the glass stove for a long time, they may take some more cleaning muscle to remove. In this case, purchase a stain remover specifically designed for ceramic or glass stovetops, and follow the instructions.
