Troubleshooting: Dryer Won’t Turn On
There’s nothing worse than loading your dryer with wet sopping clothes, and realizing it won’t turn on. Especially living in an apartment or condo, where setting your clothes to dry outside may not be an option, a broken dryer is a big deal. If you find yourself in this situation, worry not! City Master – Appliance Repair Services can help. Here are some troubleshooting tips for a dryer that won’t turn on.
1) Not Plugged In
There are some complicated problems, and then there is this. Before you call for dryer repair over your broken dryer, make sure your appliance is plugged in and the breaker has not tripped.
2) Faulty Thermal Fuse
Your dryer repair checklist should start with the thermal fuse. This fuse helps prevent fires by shutting off power if the dryer gets too hot. This is the most common fault if you find that your dryer will not start. Once the thermal fuse has blown, it needs to be replaced, and there may be an underlying problem that needs to be addressed that is causing your dryer to overheat. Let our technicians help! Contact us and one of our experts will come as soon as possible.
3) Faulty Door Switch
If your dryer doesn’t start, there is a chance that it still thinks that the door is open. The ‘door switch’ is what lets the dryer know that the door is closed, and if this is not engaging, then the dryer will not start. As a note, it is possible that your broken dryer is not so broken at all, and there is something blocking the door from closing all the way. Always check and make sure this is not the case.
4) Faulty Start Switch
The final most common problem is a faulty ‘start switch’. This is located on the control panel, and actuated when you actually press the start button or turn the dial. If your dryer won’t start, there is a possibility that this switch is faulty. Our technicians can test your dryer’s start switch and replace it if it is faulty.
Dryer Won’t Start: What to do Next?
If you have not yet diagnosed your broken dryer, it may be more complicated, such as a faulty drive motor, belt switch, or control board. But worry not! This does not mean it is time to shell out for a new dryer. If you need any help with the replacement of these parts or further diagnosis of the problem, our experienced technicians at City Master – Appliance Repair Services would be happy to help.
